Welcome to the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Special Interest Group (SIG) of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES). The purpose of the ESD SIG, which was founded in 2010, is to promote the scholarly research and professional activities of those concerned with the intersections of sustainable development and education (broadly defined). Members of the group examine ways in which sustainable development (discourse and practice) affects educational institutions and the ways educational institutions facilitates the development of knowledge, skills, behaviors and attitudes necessary for sustainable development.

Membership in the group includes the following: access to the group’s email lists, opportunity to submit your work for consideration of the group highlighted sessions, a chance to meet fellow scholars and other members with related interests.

If you are already a CIES member*, you can join the group by checking the box for the Education for Sustainable Development SIG when you renew your CIES membership. SIG annual dues are $10. You can also register at the time of online conference registration.
